Overview

The latest release of OpenShift includes a variety of features to improve the experience for administrators and developers. For a full look at the new developer features, check out this blog post, What's new in OpenShift 4.4 console developer experience?. For the Administrator perspective, we have enhanced the discoverability of OpenShift features, the helpfulness of accurate alerting, vulnerabilities, and made adding new functionality to your OpenShift cluster easier than ever.

Enhanced discoverability

In Red Hat OpenShift 4.4, we’re bringing you new ways to discover information that’s important to you, so we’re bringing you a super-charged search page experience. We’ve heard from customers that the ability to view multiple resources at a time would be invaluable to their workflow. So, in this release of the console UI, we’ve introduced just that: multi-resource search.

To learn more about the new and improved supercharged search page read about it in this blog post Supercharged Search Page: Multi-Resource Search.

Enhanced Observability

Metrics-based dashboards are meant to provide insight and help troubleshoot common cluster problems. In an effort to provide you enhanced observability, we’ve taken the step to build these dashboards directly into the console rather than relying on external tools. Read more about these features in this blog post The Native Experience: Metrics Dashboards

The new features we’ve added to help you increase observability doesn’t stop there. We’ve added enhancements to notifications and alert receivers to improve the alerting experience. Why Alerts Matter?: Notification Drawer\New Alert Receivers.

Better access to advanced data

In Red Hat OpenShift 4.4, we wanted to make it even easier for our users to get the information they need most. This is why we’ve revamped some of our list views to provide the most relevant resource-specific data. To learn more about the improved list view read this blog post about Updated Pods\Projects List View.

Easier than ever functionality for your cluster

Adding new functionality to your OpenShift cluster has always been easy. In fact, it's as easy as discovering and installing operators from the embedded OperatorHub in the OpenShift Web Console. To keep this process as simple as possible, operator developers can now specify exactly what namespace their operator should be installed to. To learn more about these OLM improvements read this blog post. Getting it Right: OLM Improvements.

Taking security a step further

Security is a top priority for OpenShift. OpenShift 4.3 laid the groundwork for even more robust image security with Quay Container Security Integration, which allows registry images to be scanned for vulnerabilities right from the OpenShift Web Console and surfaced on the cluster dashboard’s Status card.

For OpenShift 4.4, we’ve taken this security a step further. To enhance the Container Security Operator's functionality, we've added a dedicated Image Manifest Vulnerabilities list to the Administrator section, where you can quickly view and diagnose these vulnerabilities. Read more about the Image Vulnerabilities list in this blog post. Not On My Watch: Image Vulnerabilities List.
